About counselling
What brings people to therapy?
For some people it’s a major life event like a bereavement or breakup. Others have painful experiences playing on repeat like social anxiety, addiction or relationship problems - these can be distressing and confusing. Yet they are often adaptations to past stresses or trauma - your psyches best attempt at coping. The trouble is that these coping mechanisms remain, even after the danger has passed, and can become painful and problematic in themselves. Counselling can help you understand these patterns, while addressing emotional or traumatic experience at a pace that’s right for you.
My approach to therapy
Existential-humanistic therapy helps you address your difficulties within a supportive, empathic relationship. It seeks to foster new self-awareness and agency as we work together to build a picture of your difficulties. It has roots in existential philosophy and aims at bringing awareness to your way of being in the world and any blocks to living fully and finding meaning in your life.
My work is trauma-informed which means I understand the impact of trauma on mind and body, and I’m experienced working with trauma survivors and post-traumatic stress.
How to get started…
It's good to make sure you find the right therapist, someone you'll feel comfortable working with. I offer an initial session to explore working together. After that, if you’d like to proceed, we can make a regular weekly booking.
