About Counselling

Brighton & Hove

What brings people to therapy?

It could be a major life event like a bereavement or breakup. But for most people, it’s painful experiences playing on repeat like social anxiety, addiction or relationship problems. These can be distressing and confusing, yet they are often adaptations to past stresses or trauma - your psyches best way of coping at the time. The trouble is that these adaptations tend to stick around and become painful and problematic in themselves. Counselling can help you understand these patterns, while addressing emotional or traumatic experience at a pace that’s right for you.

My approach to therapy

An existential-humanistic approach offers a supportive, empathic relationship for processing difficulties. It invites exploration of your way of being in the world: mind, body and soul. This often means slowing down and turning towards your thoughts and feelings. While this can seem counterintuitive, attending to your experiences in this way can be both illuminating and healing.

My work is trauma-informed which means I understand the impact of trauma on mind and body, and I’m experienced working with trauma survivors and post-traumatic stress.

How to get started…

It's important to find the right therapist, someone you'll feel comfortable working with. I offer an initial session to explore working together. After that, if you’d like to proceed, we can make a regular weekly booking.
